Organizational Foundations

As you strive to grow in your leadership skills and abilities, you will find that the context in which you work influences your motivation and areas of focus. In a similar vein, your commitment to developing professionally can contribute toward organizational effectiveness.

To that end, it is critical to recognize the importance of organizational culture and climate. In particular, through this week’s Learning Resources, you may consider several questions: How do an organization’s mission, vision, and values relate to its culture? What is the difference between culture and climate? Moreover, how are culture and climate manifested within the organization?

For this Discussion, you explore the culture and climate of your current organization or one with which you are familiar. You also consider decisions and day-to-day practices and the way they relate to the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

To prepare:

·         Review the information related to planning and decision making in health care organizations presented in the textbook, Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing: Theory and Application.Consider how planning and decision making relate to an organization’s mission, vision, and values, as well as its culture and its climate.

·         Familiarize yourself with the mission, vision, and values of your organization or one with which you are familiar. Consider how the statements and actions of leaders and others within the organization support or demonstrate the organizational mission, vision, and values. In addition, note any apparent discrepancies between word and deed. Think about how this translates into expectations for direct service providers. Note any data or artifacts that seem to indicate whether behaviors within the organization are congruent with its mission, vision, and values.

·         Begin to examine and reflect on the culture and climate of the organization. How do culture and climate differ?

·         Why is it important for you, as a master’s-prepared nurse leader, to be cognizant of these matters?

Abstract: A case study illustrates the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) as an organizational change process. A systemic process, reliant on executive leadership and organizational culture, facilitates implementation of EBP. Qualitative findings suggest that effective EBP implementation requires engagement of staff across the organization. The development of communities of practice and other strategies to engage staff, including a model for organizational analysis, assists preparation for EBP implementation.

Abstract: The study investigated the influence of role conflict, workload, centralization, and formalization on job satisfaction of long-term care staff. Regression analysis revealed that role conflict, workload, centralization, and formalization together contributed 40.0% variance in job satisfaction. Risk management (case) | Applied Sciences homework help

Please view this short video:

QIO Program. (2014). Failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) [Video file]. Retrieved from:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOLfe37gq4g

You have recently been appointed to a risk management position in a large hospital. On you first day in your new position, several key staff approach you individually to discuss their opinions concerning the use of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Several of the staff expressed their view that FMEA was not designed to be used in healthcare and to “force” it to work with a healthcare based risk management program will result in faulty analysis and actually increase risks. Other staff clearly supported FMEA and believe it is the future in healthcare risk management.

Before you meet with staff to discuss FMEA you need to know the following:

  • What is Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)?
  • In the context of risk management, how can it be used to improve processes in healthcare organizations?
  • What impact can it have on preventing sentinel events?
  • What are the Joint Commission’s requirements in this case?

Assignment Expectations

Prepare a response to the above stated questions concerning FMEA. Your response should also answer the concerns of staff in a 4- to 6-page paper.

Anthr 1: 2 to 3 pages assignment, see the document detail carefully,

Assignment Overview

This Second Assignment asks you to gather appropriate information from at least three (3) reputable sources and write a cohesive short report on your choice of a living, non-human primate species. Your detailed and original report will demonstrate your understanding of the physical and social adaptations of your chosen species.

  1. Your first paragraph must identify your chosen      non-human primate by its scientific name (genus and species), its common      name and the location of primary wild population(s) in the world. Explain briefly why you chose this      particular species. Your first paragraph      must end with a thesis statement that encapsulates your plan to provide      information about this species.
  2. IMPORTANT: This      assignment is about a specific species of living, non-human primate.
    1. DO NOT write about a       general group term like lemur, monkey or ape.
    2. Make sure that the species you chose to write about       is a non-human PRIMATE.
  3. Present and analyze the current scientific      research regarding this topic.
  4. Your paper must end with a clear and concise      conclusion that recaps your presentation and restates your thesis.

So … how do I do this?

1. Identify your chosen non-human primate species by its scientific name (genus and species) and its common name in English. Where (in the world) do they live? What do they look like? Is there sexual dimorphism in this species? What is the size of the average group? Are they diurnal or are they nocturnal?

2. Discuss the ecology of your chosen non-human primate. This section should be the largest section in your report.

a. What is the environment in which these creatures live in the wild? What do they eat? How do they get their food? How active are these primates in relation to the types of food that they eat? What is the average size of the group? What dangers do they face (predators, for example, each other, maybe?).

b. What are the behavioral relationships between each other in this particular species (social strategies)? What is their primary social group structure?  Who “leads” the group? Are their dominance hierarchies in this primate species? How many offspring do the females generally have at one time? How long to offspring stay with their birth group? Is the group female philopatric or is it male philopatric, or do all offspring leave their birth group at or around sexual maturity?

3. Finish your report with a brief discussion about the current prospects for continuity of this species in its natural habitat (endangered status).

4. Submit your completed assignment by clicking on the Turn-It-In link at the bottom of the Assignment page on the course website.

IMPORTANT: Canvas does not accept work submitted in .pages or as Google Docs, Google Drive shared documents or as ZIP files. Submit your paper as a Word doc or .docx or as .rtf or .pdf file. I cannot grade your paper if I cannot open it!

REQUIREMENTS for this assignment:

  1. Type your name, the topic (Second Assignment) and      the due date in the top left corner of your paper. DO NOT put anything else at the top of      the page. DO NOT use a cover page,      DO NOT include an abstract for this paper.
  2. Minimum at least two full pages of text. 2 to 3 pages is an appropriate length      for this assignment. Double-spaced,      one-inch margins (check your left and right margins), typed in English,      12-point font.
  3. Include a full source page at the end of your      report (three sources minimum, more is better). List complete source citations in APA      format. Include as much of the      following information as possible: author(s) family name followed by first initial, year of      publication, title of article or book, name of journal, magazine or book      including volume/issue and page numbers of publication, website where the      article was published, date of website information retrieval.

Website APA citation format examples:

The Writing Center. (2019). Plagiarism. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Retrieved January 4, 2019, from https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/plagiarism/

As the Director of Health Information Management at Anywhere Hospital, your job will include a variety of different roles. In a well-written 8- to 12-pages paper supported by the readings from the text, Modules 1–8, and at least two additional scholarly sources, provide a detailed description of your different roles. Your paper should include at least the answers to the following items:

  1. Staff members at Anywhere Hospital are often called upon to speak at career days held at local high schools. For each speaking engagement, the staff member is required to provide a handout describing the career for students to review. You will be scheduled to speak at one of these career days next month. What topics would you include in your presentation?  What would you include in the brochure that addresses educational requirements and career opportunities of a health information management professional?
  2. Because of increased awareness of instances of identity theft in your local community, you have resolved to minimize the potential for identity theft occurring in your facility. Identify the measures you can employ to prevent identity theft and discuss how you would respond to a reported occurrence of identity theft.
  3. As part of its new employee orientation, the hospital asks each department director to describe to the new employees the services offered by that department and the responsibilities of managers and staff. You have been asked to include as part of your description an explanation of diagnosis-related groups. Describe what you would include in your explanation.
