Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

First and Last Name__________________________

This is a 12 point assignment. The objective of this assignment is to spend hours thinking and understanding the physiological pathways of Photosynthesis and of Glycolysis and Cellular respiration. The more time you spend looking at these physiological cycles, extrapolating and interpreting, the more comprehension you’ll achieve. This assignment can act as a study tool and should add towards your overall study time for Unit 2.

Point Distribution:

Chapter 8 Cycle Drawings                          =       3 points

Chapter 8 Cycle 1 page Explanation Paper    =       3 points

Chapter 7 Cycle Drawings                          =       3 points

Chapter 7 Cycle 1 page Explanation Paper    =       3 points

Total Points for Chapter 8 & 7 Assignment  =       12 points

For chapter 8: Draw out on a blank 8X11 sheet of paper the two diagrams below.

The first diagram is summary of the pathways of electrons through the PHOTOSYSTEMS and through the ELECTRON TRANSPORT CHAINS.

The second diagram is the summary of the CALVIN (or C3) CYCLE. You must know the ins and outs of these two important pathways which all begin with light and water. DON’T JUST COPY the diagrams for the sake of completing the assignment, this completely defeats the objective of the assignment. Rather, think of why each step in the process is necessary and how each step assists in the pathway. Be sure to label all parts of the systems and cycles. Then on a second sheet of paper, write in your own words the physiological pathway or story explaining all steps of all reactions from the beginning of the reaction center to the end of the C3 Cycle.  You must include in your paper the following terms in order to receive full credit: NADPH, NADP,+ H,+ ADP, ATP, H2O, O2, CO2, e, NADP, ETC II, ETC I, Photosystem II, Photosystem I, Reaction center, Light, Photons, Primary electron acceptor, Chlorophyll, Stroma, Pigment molecules, Thylakoid, ATP Synthase, Glucose, Light-independent, Light-dependent, Chemiosmosis, Calvin Cycle, Kinetic energy, Concentration gradient, Hydrogen pump, rubisco, G3P (glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate), RuBP, PGA (Phosphoglyceric acid),

For chapter 7: Do the exact same thing as you did for Photosynthesis.

The diagrams below depict:

Pyruvate Oxidation (Acetyl coA formation)

Krebs Cycle (Citric Acid Cycle)

Oxidative Phosphorylation (Electron Transport Chain & Chemiosmosis)

Fermentation (Lactate forming)

Draw out on a blank 8X11 sheet of paper the diagram below. Be sure to label all parts of the systems and cycles. Then on a separate page, write a story explaining all steps of all reactions from the beginning of Glycolysis to the end of the ETC. I will be looking for ATP, ADP, FAD, FADH2, Acetyl-CoA, Pyruvate, G3P, Glycolysis, Cellular respiration, glucose, concentration gradient, ATP synthase, kinetic energy, rotor, catalytic knob, stator, internal rod, depleted electrons, Krebs cycle, Ribulose 1,6-Biphosphate, NADH, NAD+, Chemiosmosis, Oxidative phosphorylation, CO2, H2O, O2, electrons (e-), lactate or ethanol, aerobic, anaerobic

Discussion board 3 | Biology homework help

Develop a response to this question. Ensure you have answered all parts of the question completely. Complete this assignment described below using complete sentences in a paragraph format, and be sure to check your spelling when complete.

Please read the Discussion Board Directions located on the course menu on the left side of the screen before you begin to post or reply.

Humans have benefited from an overall warmer climate over the past millennia. However, among the majority of scientists there is deep concern over the changes in climate as a result of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide. Many scientists and non-scientists advocate a rapid shift to energy sources that contribute less carbon dioxide and methane to the atmosphere. (Note: Methane is also a greenhouse gas, its effects on atmospheric warming are greater per molecule, but the warming effects do not last as long). Conversely, there are many politicians and a few scientists who do not think that carbon dioxide emission is a threat to the planet. Some of these people refute the claim of human activity being responsible for change in climate and point to how climate has always fluctuated throughout the life of planet Earth.

1. Locate a recent (last 2 years) news article related to climate change. Please pick a substantial article, not a short note/news flash, or you will not have enough material to work with to successfully answer the questions. Post the title and source immediately on discussion board so that others do not choose the same article.

2. Summarize the article. In your summary, be sure to address whether the article is consistent with the view of most scientists, maintains a point of view that climate change either is not occurring or is not important, or makes some effort to “balance” these.

3. Why do some scientists refute the claim that human activity is responsible for climate change?

4. What are the major human activities that contribute to carbon dioxide increase in the atmosphere?

5. Which of the many potential negative effects of rapid climate change do you believe will have the greatest economic costs in the U.S.? Which things will have the greatest economic costs in less developed regions of the world?

Respond to Others: Read the postings of your classmates and comment on at least one other student’s response. Justify any comments you make with factual information.

Discussion Board Grading Rubric:

1. Original posting: (7 points)

  • Posting is at least 100 words and has proper grammar and punctuation (2 points).
  • Posting fully addresses the discussion board questions. (2 points)
  • Discussion is original and at a critical level, not just recitation of facts. (2 points)
  • Proper citation of references. (1 point)

2. Reply to peer discussion posts: (3 points)

  • Discuss one point you like/agree with, and one point you dislike/disagree with and explain why. (2 points)
  • Length of positing consists of approximately 100 words minimum. (1 point)

 Aaron Dunn

The article I choose to write about is called “Foreign Nationals Perspectives about Climate Change,” and I found this in the CTC library database. The main reason I prefer to use this article is that it surveyed 175 different people and not just a scientist. Overall, the report asked these ordinary people four different questions about climate change. I will only cover three of them in this discussion. The first question was what would cause climate change to worsen in the future, and 131 out of the 175 said it would be because of human impacts on the Ozone layer. The second question was how to reduce the exhaust gases in traffic. The most significant answer was to reduce the number of cars that operated day today and to have more people ride bikes instead. This is something that most of the world is already doing or trying to do. The third question was how to best-educated people about the changing climate. Overall, the answer was to bring more awareness to the public about the issues we are facing and self-educate. Why do you think this is important? It is because it will have to take the ordinary people to make a change to save this planet. The scientist can show you data and explain why it is happening, but it will take the people to change to make it happen. I believe that most scientists believe that something needs to be changed, but not all think it is because of human impacts. The primary human activities that contribute to carbon dioxide increase is with the burning of fossil fuels. The highest cost will be making the switch to an entirely renewable energy source, especially when you talk about the vehicles that take us everywhere. Less developed regions of the world will have to make the hard choice between food and renewable resources. Most of the less developed countries survive by any means necessary, so to them to spend money on something other than immediate needs will be a significant change.

Week 1 biology | Biology homework help

Week 1 Discussion

The Discussions are not simply statements of opinion. They are intended to allow you to expand upon and apply the principles discussed in your textbook, the lectures, and/or other research you conduct. Each week a question will be posed for your consideration. Before answering, you should review the chapters covered during this week and the lectures.

It is strongly encouraged that your initial post be posted by 11:59 PM ET on Thursday. It should be at least 250 words. This MUST be in your own words. Do NOT copy and paste from the Internet. You MAY use quotes from a source, but those quotes will NOT count towards your 250 word count requirement. Please do not plagiarize. If you use a quote, you MUST put quotation marks around it AND you MUST cite the source at the end of your post. It is NOT simply enough to put a source at the end. You should also include at least one reference in your post. Do NOT use Wikipedia or Yahoo! Answers as a source.

You should then make at least two additional posts to other students on either topic. These posts should be at least 100 words and be substantive in nature. While pleasantries such as “I agree” or “great job” are nice, they will not count as one of your required posts. Your posts should be on at least 3 separate days with all being completed by 11:59 PM ET Sunday.

Science is hardStudying science is not easy for anyone. People who become scientists do not do so, because it is easy, or they have a ‘knack for it.’ As shown in the table below, many scientists struggle with understanding math; are dyslexic; are on the autism spectrum; or have a physical disability. Despite these difficulties, they still chose to become scientists. People become scientists because they like the challenge; they understand that all successes require a long journey with many failures; and they have a burning desire to know: 1) how and why things are the way they are; 2) if things have always been that way; and 3) if they will continue to be that way in the future.

Watch this video of Temple Grandin talking about how autism can be an asset when studying animal behavior.

Research a famous scientist or inventor. (You may use any scientist/inventor listed in the table below or you may use someone not listed in the table.) Explain the following: 1) how s/he struggled; 2) how s/he overcame or managed the struggle; and 3) what s/he is famous for discovering.

Remember that participation is required on a minimum of three days through 11:59 PM ET Sunday. You are required to respond to at least 2 classmates.

Please see below request due by 7:30 AM  EST on August 2, 2014

Select one (1) article from a magazine or newspaper that has something in it that pertains to biology. This

will serve as the “target article” for this assignment. For instance, you can select an article about

medicine, invasive species, nature, conservation, genetic technology, ecology, or any other topic that is

related to biology. One purpose of this assignment is to help you become aware of how biology is related

to your everyday life.

Write a one to three (1-3) page paper in which you:

1. Summarize the article in one (1) or more paragraphs, using your own words. Be sure to identify

the article using an in-text citation in the body of the paper, as well as a reference in the reference

2. Explain how the article relates to this course. Identify which biological concepts from the course

and / or text are relevant to the topic covered in the article. Citing the course text, discuss the

ways in which this course does (or doesn’t) provide background information to help you

understand the article and the larger issues surrounding it.

3. Explain why the article caught your attention. Relate the article to your life and to issues that are

important to you. Discuss how or if the scientific knowledge about the topic covered in the article

affects you directly or indirectly.

4. Discuss your opinion on how research on this topic should be funded. State whether you think

taxpayer monies should support research on this topic or whether such research in this area

should be funded by the private sector. Rate the importance of research on this topic, relative to

other areas of research.

In addition to the target article, you should use at least one (1) additional resource, such as your textbook

or another article. You must have a reference section which contains an APA reference to your chosen

article and all other sources. Additionally, you must provide in-text citations (in APA format) to your

references in the body of the text. Integrate all sources into your paper using proper techniques of

quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing, along with your in-text citations.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

 Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all

sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your

professor for any additional instructions.

Good discount fishing gear: Hooks

Choosing the proper kind of hook may be a confusing part of shopping for fishing equipment. This will rely completely on the type of fish you anti[censored] te to capture. If the hook is too small you risk having the fish swallowing the hook and getting away. A hook that is too large is going to be disregarded by fish.

A fine rule of thumb is to select bigger hooks for big fish. You might want to pick many different hook sizes whenever you look for angling equipment. This will help you choose what works and what does not.

Good discount fishing gear: tackle

Then you want to concentrate on picking your tackle. This really is what goes on the end of your angling line to draw in the fish and get them to attach onto the hook. It is possible to find a lot of these discount fishing gear tackles. There are all various sizes Chris Givens Womens Jersey , styles, shapes and colors of fishing bait to select from. This is also essential since bait and also fishing lures can often go missing or damaged and you would wish to possess a couple of extra supplies readily available rather than finding your self put out.

The creation of the ocean floor paper

** Please do not send me the same paper written for someone else in the past, as I will be using the turnitin feature to check for plagiarism and previously submitted papers. This must be a freshly written paper and not sold to someone else later**

Prepare a 350- to 700-word paper describing the basic theories associated with the creation of the ocean floor.

Include the following in your paper:

  • Identify three different plate boundaries and list the outstanding features of each boundary.
  • List one natural event that occurs as a direct result of plate boundary interactions.
  • Compare and contrast ideas behind plate tectonics and the theory of continental drift. Does one idea seem more plausible than the other? If so, why? Base your findings on the natural event you identified earlier in the paper.
  • APA format
  • References a minimum of two outside sources, other than your text, such as credible websites and articles that support your findings

The content is comprehensive, accurate, and persuasive.

The paper develops a central theme or idea directed toward the appropriate audience.

The paper links theory to relevant examples and uses the vocabulary of the theory correctly.

Major points are stated clearly; are supported by specific details, examples, or analysis; and are organized logically

The introduction provides sufficient background on the topic and previews major points.

The conclusion is logical, flows from the body of the paper, and reviews the major points.
