Project charter [clos: 1, 2]

        Week 1 – Assignment

Project Charter [CLOs: 1, 2]

Scenario: Roto Air
You will be working  with the following scenario throughout this course. You are free to make  reasonable assumptions when facts have not been provided, but do state  them as you complete the assignments.

You are a  project manager for Roto Air, Inc., a successful manufacturer of  autonomous rotorcraft (drone helicopters) headed by CEO Jackie  Copperfield. You work at the research and development facility in  central New York and have been given the assignment of transitioning the  manufacturing processes for the newest product, the Quick Drop 100, to  its permanent manufacturing site in central Florida. The Florida plant  is non-union, has lower property taxes, and lower utility costs than the  New York location. You will be sharing an existing building owned by  Roto Air and used for assembly of other similar products. While floor  space has been allocated for your product, the specialized machinery and  tools must be procured. One of these machines is to be custom built and  has a lead time of 5 months. Normal support functions such as human  resources, facility maintenance, and manufacturing engineering are  already available in Florida. A manual with the product assembly  instructions and specifications is needed for training the new  manufacturing technicians and will remain your responsibility to  complete. An appropriate budget of $1M has been approved for first year  transition costs. Annual savings from the move are expected to be  $250,000 per year. The budget is controlled by John Golden, plant  manager in Florida. Manufacturing is scheduled to start in the new  location six months from today. You have a well-qualified team of four  other employees that are free to travel as needed from their New York  home to Florida. Although the team members have worked on many projects,  they have not worked together before. Team members are Jackie, Ken,  Jose, and Shawn. Upon successful transition you will return to your  responsibilities in New York.

Assignment:
This  week you will complete the project charter. Various publications and  organizations have differing contents for a charter; however you will be  working with the outline preferred by Roto Air. Using the information  provided, complete the steps below.

  1. Compose a business case for transitioning the product to Florida.
  2. Prepare a scope statement for the transition project.
  3. Identify the most logical project sponsor and justify your choice with at least two supporting reasons.
  4. Identify the top level project schedule.
  5. Identify the overall budget.
  6. Specifies at least one state or national safety standard that the  manufacturing operation must comply with and explain the reason for its  selection.

Your paper must be 900 to 1200 words in length (not including  title and reference pages) and must be formatted according to APA style  as outlined in the approved APA style guide. Contextual (Level One)  headings must be used to organize your paper and your thoughts. You must  cite at least two scholarly sources from the Ashford Online Library in  addition to the textbook.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

  • Identify the associated organs.
  • Explain the relationship between normal system function      and dysfunction.
  • Provide one example of how dysfunction can lead to      disease.
  • Examine the interdependence of physiological systems in      both health and disease.
  • Briefly describe the importance of homeostasis as it      relates to our health.

Use medical terminology and two scholarly sources to support your research and findings (one may be your course text).  All sources must be referenced and cited according to APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length.

Eng 325 week 3 discussion1

As you discovered in reading   Chapter 6 this week, much of business writing uses reports and proposals to   identify problems and find solutions. These formal writing processes are very   similar to the informal acts we use every day, such as managing schedules,   planning meals, as well as balancing work, school, and life. For this   discussion, you will draw on your own experience to identify a problem and/or   propose a solution. Your problem and/or solution can be personal,   professional, or academic. For instance, you might need a car and want to   evaluate if it is better to buy a new or used car or opt to lease an   automobile. You do not have to use research here, but logic and critical   thinking to assess the problem and evaluate the solution. We recommend that   you think closely about some real-life problem-solving that you have recently   grappled with as chances are, others have experienced similar challenges,   thus making this assignment more relevant to them.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims   with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and   properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts   by Day 7. Each response should be at least 125 words long. Use this forum to   get acquainted and for any conversations that are not course related.   Consider the difference between informal and more formal ways that people   tend to solve problems.

Eng 325 week 3 discussion 2

For this discussion prompt, you will write an “elevator speech.” Every job seeker needs an elevator speech, which is a succinct, 30-second to 1-minute speech that summarizes all of your experience, your current occupation, and a few important reasons why you would  be a perfect fit for a particular job. You can think of an elevator speech as a sort of quick sales pitch to get a potential employer interested in hiring you.

Craft an elevator speech that articulates your past experience, your current work, and the specific qualifications that make you an ideal candidate for  a particular job. (Ideally, this job would be one that you’re interested in pursuing after earning your degree, or you might even craft an elevator speech for a possible promotion at your current profession. Also, you might consult the Jobs in English tab, located under the Course Home page in our online classroom, to find a profession suited to your particular skillset.)

Please feel free to think broadly and creatively about the “elevator speech.” Some students might tell a story to interest their perspective employer. Others dazzle them with cutting-edge ideas. Still others create a lasting impression with humor. Read The 30 Second Elevator Speech for an explanation and examples of exemplary work in this form of writing. How will you set yourself apart?

Finally, watch Sample “Elevator Pitches” for a couple of helpful examples of elevator speeches. Also, read The Perfect Elevator Pitch to Land a Job for tips on crafting the perfect (elevator) pitch.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length and include specific examples of your experience and the assets/ideas you would bring to your new position.

Eng 325 week 5 discussion 2

Now that we’ve reached the end of the course, it’s important to reflect on the similarities and differences between the two main forms of writing studied in ENG 325: business writing and public writing. In this discussion prompt you will be comparing and contrasting these methods of communication. Some similarities and differences might be more obvious than others. To articulate those similarities and differences that might not be so immediately apparent, support your ideas with quotes from the course text and other course readings.

In answering this prompt, address these three questions specifically:

  • In your opinion, what are the main similarities between      business writing and public writing?
  • What are the main differences between these two forms      of communication?
  • Which of these two forms of writing do you find comes      to you most naturally and why? How do you see this preference of one form      over the other impacting your professional identity once you’ve earned      your degree and begin to search the job market for possible employment? If      you do not plan on actively seeking employment after graduation, you may      answer this last question in terms of your overall identity as an English      major, writer, and critical thinker.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7. Each response should be at least 125 words long.
